Schuyler Manhattan, LMHC
I’m Schuyler (“SKY-ler”) Manhattan, a therapist and coach who balances empathic listening with practical, solution-focused feedback. I work with adults and couples who feel stuck—worry spirals, racing thoughts, relationship tension, work stress, or ADHD overwhelm—and want a calmer, more confident way forward. My style is warm, direct, and paced around your comfort.
Specializations
Anxiety and chronic stress (racing thoughts, sleep disruption, panic, tension), ADHD / attention challenges and productivity support, relationship conflict (couples, partners, family dynamics), career stress, burnout, and life transitions, self-esteem and confidence-building, LGBTQIA+ affirming care, support for young professionals and entrepreneurs/freelancers.
Approach
Feeling calm and secure is often both the goal and the path. We’ll get curious about what’s happening in your mind and body in the moment—so we can slow things down, reduce overwhelm, and help you feel more grounded.
I draw from evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to build safety and clarity step-by-step. When it’s helpful, we’ll also use Solution-Focused Therapy to identify what’s working, strengthen your strengths, and create a plan that fits your real life.
My philosophy is simple: we do what works for you. I’m less interested in rigid models and more committed to helping you get unstuck with tools you can actually use—especially when life is complicated and the stakes feel high.
My Goals for You
Feel calmer, clearer, and more confident—especially when anxiety, stress, or ADHD has you feeling stuck, scattered, or doubting yourself. Together we’ll build practical tools you can use between sessions, so you can reduce overwhelm, improve focus and follow-through, and feel more grounded in your day-to-day life. If relationship conflict is part of what you’re carrying, we’ll work toward healthier communication, less reactivity, and more peace with partners or family. And if work stress or burnout is weighing on you, we’ll clarify what’s driving it, strengthen boundaries and coping skills, and help you move toward a more sustainable, fulfilling path.
My Journey
I’ve seen how powerful empathy can be when it’s paired with plausible strategies that help people move forward. That combination—feeling deeply heard and also leaving with something actionable—has shaped my work from the start.
I hold a graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) and previously graduated from New York University (NYU). I also teach graduate counselors, which helps keep my work sharp, current, and grounded in what actually helps. Along the way, I’ve pursued advanced training and certifications (including solution-focused and motivational approaches) to support clients with both depth and momentum.
Personal Notes
I love pairing warmth with humor. I’m also passionate about nature—and the healing power of music to shift mood, build resilience, and bring us back to ourselves.
